4th. generation Richard. 1864

The next generation is very difficult to navigate as there are some discrepancies which I will come to later. Richard Edmund jr. married Eva Harris in 1884 at Coconada Madras.

They had 3 children. Osmond born 1896 in Madras is the discrepancy, he is called Oswald on his birth certificate showing that his father was Clarence - but on his marriage entry he is listed as Osmond born 1896, the father here is listed as Richard Edmund. It would be easy to presume that they were 2 different people born 1 year apart with similar names - Further to this his witness was Irene Gregory who was his married sister which would make them both Clarence's children, the version passed down through the family is that Eva & Richard were his parents and he was always know as Oswald Victor, this does not add up when looking at the official documents.

Their other 2 children were Florence born 1888 in Madras, Henry born 1899 in Coonoor.

                   Coonoor

Richard and Eva both died reputedly in 1917 there is no further information as to where they are buried. There is some evidence that Eva was a seamstress who did work for local families, this may have been a pastime rather than a full time occupation.
Apart from her birth announcement there is no information on Florence for the rest of her life.
Henry joined the Military in 1918 he was in the Royal Field Artillery, Anglo-Indian Battery Rawalpindi, his service no. was 719.  In 1936 Henry and his wife had a son called Edgar Napier Bastian Stephenson, there is no further information on this branch of the family.

However...............if Clarence was the father, the following would change.

He would change from being Oswald's uncle to his father. Clarence married Leonora Stephenson in Blacktown Madras in 1893, they had 2 children, Oswald 1897 born in Coornoor, and  Irene, there is no further information on her, only that she married sometime before 1918 into the Gregory family, as she has signed Osmond's marriage register as Irene Gregory.
